Description
The FL NAT SMN 8TX is the first product in the Phoenix Contact range that combines the functions of a NAT router (NAT = Network Address Translation) and a switch in one device. The NAT switch is suitable for almost any use in automation applications with a compact enclosure compatible with the control cabinet, the “book factor”.
The port on which NAT conversion occurs in the higher-level network is port 1. Ports 2 to 8 of the managed switch are used for the lower-level network. FL NAT SMN 8TX can be configured via a webserver or via SNMP ( Simple Network Management Protocol).
The FL NAT SMN 8TXit is the first combined device that combines the switch mechanism (on the Layer2 level) with routing (on the Layer3 level). If in the past two devices were required and therefore double the width for the installation and a double price for the acquisition, the FL NAT SMN 8TX is a highly functional device at a very attractive price.
The switch functions incl. portmirroring, LLDP or redundancy mechanisms enable standard and powerful data communications on seven 100 MBit / s LAN ports.
Machine manufacturers very often have the problem of equipping their machines with an IP address space that can be reintegrated into their customers’ IT network. With the FL NAT SMN 8TXit is possible to equip individual machines or systems with the same IP addresses all the time and then convert these IP addresses into higher-level corporate network IP address ranges required by the applications. This functional block is usually referred to as Network Address Translation – NAT.
